PIQUA, Ohio — September 28, 1994 — Well known Czech Republic aircraft manufacturer, Moravan, has selected a Hartzell three-bladed constant speed propeller system for its Zlin 242L trainer aircraft. The North American importer of the aircraft is Zlin Aerospace North America located in Barrie, Ontario. The 242L is certified and operated in the United States under FAR 23-36 where it is utilized in primary and aerobatic training service.
The aircraft will feature Hartzell’s new scimitar blade design. The constant speed system consists of Hartzell’s proven compact hub design, three aluminum blades and a polished spinner. The scimitar blade airfoil is designed primarily for enhanced low speed thrust performance … one of the most important performance factors for aerobatic flight. The added low speed thrust gained from the airfoil design of the three blades results in superior vertical penetration as well as enhanced ability to top off a line from vertical to horizontal. The Hartzell prop is certified with the 200 HP Lycoming AEIO 360 engine.
The Z-242L is an all metal construction, two seat aircraft capable of night flying, banner towing, and operation out of uneven airstrips in addition to its primary role as a trainer.
Hartzell Propeller Inc. is the world’s leading manufacturer of propeller systems, enjoying an 85 percent market share on corporate turboprops and a 60 percent share on turboprop airliners. The 77-year-old company is also well-known for its design leadership having introduced the industry’s first full-feathering propellers for light twins, the first fully-reversing propellers for corporate turboprops, and the industry’s first composite structure blades.
